Perspective Desk publishes commentary and analysis by people who know a subject from doing it. A piece here is not a survey of what experts think; it is one person setting out how something works, what has changed, and which of their own assumptions they have had to revise.

The emphasis is on what a person knows rather than who they are. Contributors are introduced by their work and their standing in a field because that is the basis on which a reader should weigh an argument, not because the publication is interested in profiles. A contributor need not hold a current job or title to be published here; what matters is the experience behind the argument.

We publish across business, finance, law, healthcare, technology, sport, research, leadership and independent practice. The subjects vary; the standard does not. A perspective is worth publishing when it contains something the author knows from practice and could not have written without having done the work.

Two kinds of piece appear here, and they are always distinguished. Some are written by the contributor. Others are written by editorial staff drawing on an interview with a contributor or on material they have supplied. Every article states which it is, on the article itself and in every list it appears in.

The publication is deliberately narrow. It does not carry news, it does not aggregate, and it does not publish anonymous commentary. Arguments made here are attached to a name and to the experience standing behind them, because a reader is entitled to know whose judgement is being offered.
